So I was going to use Cannonball Read as an excuse to post in here more, and then I read this book that was so stupid and occasionally offensive (oh the delightful sexism of women about women!), and I was really not looking forward to reviewing it, and... yeah, that didn't happen.

I leave you with my current favorite song, which has played on a loop in my office on and off for about a week now. I like the track that follows it (My Kingdom) better for energetic dancey vibes, but this one is wonderfully soothing and melancholy.

I am all a goggle to know what the book is!

It was the Your Mother Was Right book. I was expecting cool MacGyver-esque old-timey homemaker tips and tricks like how to fix shit with random shit you have lying around, and other household knowledge that's slowly being lost as technology takes over the menial tasks in our lives, and there was a TINY bit of that, but mostly it was really sexist advice about how to, like, omg, prepare your cutest outfits, and like, omg, how do you, like, shop for a geek guy? And, like, omg, how do you, like, get gifts for guys? They, like, don't talk and stuff! I think the breaking point for me was when the question was "how do you tell a guy you want to have sex with him?" and "tell him" was the FOURTH ITEM down on the list after 3 items of stupid passive aggressive bullshit.

And this was all advice from women to other women, because it turns out the book was a collection of forum posts on some huge forum for women or whatever, so it was all the more infuriating that it wasn't just one dumbass so deep in misogyny and gender divisions that she'd internalized these attitudes, it was a whole fucking ARMY of them.

This book made me MAD, Lorraine. I thought we were a little further ahead in women's rights and gender equality in general than "Ohmigosh, men just don't, like, TALK about their feelings! Maybe if we cook them a nice home-cooked meal they'll love us! Teehee! Let's take Polaroids of our favorite outfits so we don't forget them later!"
